Tonight, Park the Van Records and Live New Orleans presents Brass Bed, Silent Cinema and King Rey at One Eyed Jacks. Along with enjoying the sounds of great local artists, show goers will be given the opportunity to participate in the Gulf oil spill relief effort by shaving their heads and donating their hair to make containment booms.

Chris Watson of Park the Van Records and Tom Haulard of Silent Cinema have collaborated with local hair stylist, Lindsay Brown to set up a booth for haircuts. There will be a “shave your head and get in free” deal to encourage patrons to contribute to the relief effort. If someone wants to help, but can’t sacrifice their locks, Brown will be giving free haircuts and saving that hair for the booms, as well. All hair will be donated to Matter of Trust, the organization making the booms.

Haulard casually coined the phrase “indie takes interest” regarding this event and hopefully many more to come. He explains, “The spill affects all of us here in New Orleans. We just want to do anything we can to raise awareness and get people involved.” Hair booms will be used to line the Gulf Coast to protect the shoreline from the oil that has made its way to shore. In donating money or hair to the cause, advocates will be helping all Gulf Coast regions in the United States.
