UNIT A Contemporary Art Space will once again open its doors to the public during Fort Myers Art Walk in its continuing effort to provide Southwest Florida collectors and art enthusiasts with first dibs on new work by world-renowned artist Marcus Jansen. The 7,000 square-foot warehouse studio on Evans Avenue will be open on Friday, April 4, from 6-10 p.m.
4. During the reception, The Art Album will also be available for purchase. A collaboration between hip-hop musicians and visual artists designed to showcase the art behind hip-hop lyrics in juxtaposition with the themes in contemporary visual art, The Art Album features musicians like JZ, Ludacris and Lil Wayne in combination with artists like Jansen, Chuck Close, Marlene Dumas, Shepard Fairey and Jonathan Meese. Jansen's painting Spotlight on Education appears on the book's cover, an honor that reviewer Justin Ferraro calls "perhaps the biggest development in [Jansen's] career" to this point in time.
Jansen just closed his New York City exhibition, Future Ground, which drew collectors and academics from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), David Zwirner and PACE Gallery while receiving rave reviews from Arte Fuse, New York and Schon Magazine in the United Kingdom. Jansen's next solo shows are at Roberta Britto Gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil on April 30, 2014 and Lazarides Rathbone in London, UK in October.
