A previous Kansas City Adoptive Families article explained the vast difference between accessing adoption records in Kansas vs. Missouri.

Regardless of which side of the state line you live on, there are several local search and support groups in the greater Kansas City area that you might want to check out. Some of these are meetings at set locations, while others offer online support.

Why might you want to seek support from one of these groups: Perhaps you are:

  • a newly adoptive parent
  • an adoptee who has recently discovered you are adopted or recently has had questions about your birth family
  • a birth parent who would benefit from the support of meeting other first mothers
  • a birth parent or adoptee who is deciding whether to start a search for the other party, or has been actively searching for the other party

The following Kansas City-based groups might be just what you've been looking for to receive companionship of others in similar situations, support, and advice:


Adoption Triad Support Network KC meets locally in many locations across the Kansas City area. Each meeting takes place from 7-9 PM the following dates/locations:
1st Thurs of each month- 8450 Flintlock Road, Liberty MO (W of I-35 by Target)
2nd Thurs of each month- St Michael's Episcopal Church, 4000 Lee's Summit Rd, Indep MO (just N of I-70 at Lees Summit Rd)
3rd Thurs of each month- 5601 W 95th St, Overland Park KS.. (Nall and 95th area)


Friends of Adoption
meets at the Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 7-9 p.m. eight times a year; see website for more information. This group is geared mainly toweard adoptive parents, but all are invited to attend, including birthparents and adoptees.

Families for Adoption: (: An international and domestic adoption ministry for those who have or are interested in adoption. Meetings take place at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 12200 NW Ambassador Drive in Kansas City, MO. See more details here.
