Lobos win one; Renegades lose two

The University of New Mexico Lobos hockey team wrapped up their final homestand of the season on Saturday, January 23rd.

The Lobos beat the visiting Ore Diggers from the Colorado School of Mines by a final score of 3-1.  After rallying for a comeback win on Friday night, the Lobos looked to finish the last regular season home game with a victory.  Lead by Max Smith and Jake Crappell, the Lobos were able to win the game and preserve their undefeated at home record.

The Lobos, now 15-2 on the season, will wrap up regular season play February 6th and 7th in Grand Junction, CO when they face the Mesa State Mavericks.  With their strong record, both at home and on the road, the Lobos should easily be selected by the American Collegiate Hockey Association for post-season, regional play in February.

After beating the visiting San Antonio Diablos on Friday night, the New Mexico Renegades dropped two close games to the same Diablos on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The Renegades lost by a score of 3-2 on Saturday, January 23rd.  Dan Bogdan and Derek Pellet picked up the two goals in the game.  Colton Ishmael, who finished with a game save percentage of .9348, picked up the loss for the Renegades.

Sunday's game looked like a repeat of Saturday's contest on paper.  Again outshot by San Antonio, the Renegades lost by a goal in the 3-2 contest.  Dan Bogdan and DJ Pyle picked up Sunday's tallies.  Joe Jagers took the loss in net after making 41 saves for an afternoon save percentage of .9318.

The Renegades will next face the visitng Tulsa Rampage at home on February 12, 13 and 14 and then wrap up their inaugural season on the road when they travel to El Paso to take on the division leading Rhinos on February 19, 20 and 21.
