The New Mexico baseball team fell in extra innings Saturday after winning easily on Friday night at the Kleberg Bank Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.
UNM (2-3) lost 6-2 to Iowa in 10 innings. The Lobos beat host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 7-0 in the tournament opener.
Saturday's game seemed to be in hand for UNM as Kevin Baumgartner pitched 5.2 scoreless innings as the Lobos took a 2-0 lead.
The Hawkeyes (2-3) battled back to tie the game in the seventh on Eric Toole's two-out RBI groundout and Kris Goodman's RBI single. UNM loaded the bases in the eighth but pinch hitter Erik Suarez struck out to end the threat.
A wild pitch, an RBI single and a two-run double in the 10th put Iowa ahead. Luke Campbell walked with two outs in the bottom of the frame, but Alex Real flew out to center to end the game.
A.J. Carman (1-0) tossed seven scoreless innings in Friday's win. He allowed four hits and one walk while striking out three. Luke Campbell and Chase Harris each went 1-for-5 with two RBI in support.
The Lobos will finish the tournament Sunday at 8:30 a.m. against No. 18 Oklahoma.
