The New Mexico baseball team held on for a 5-3 victory over host Air Force on Sunday afternoon.

The Lobos (19-9-1, 8-4 Mountain West) took two of three in the series, winning 13-8 on Friday before stumbling in a 5-0 loss Saturday.

Senior Josh Walker (4-1) earned his 23rd career victory with a solid outing Sunday. The right-hander allowed all three runs, two earned, on nine hits and one walk while striking out three batters.

Alex Real blasted a two-run homer, his first home run of the season, in the first inning to put UNM ahead for good on Air Force (5-21, 2-10).

Andre Vigil added a two-run single in the fourth inning to make it 4-1.

The Falcons picked up runs in the seventh and eight to make it close, but the Lobos put across an insurance run in their half of the ninth. Victor Sanchez then pitched around a one-out double to earn his second save of the season.

UNM pulled within one game of conference leader UNLV (9-3), which played a non-conference series this weekend.

The Lobos will face Texas Tech in Midland, Texas, on Tuesday before playing host to New Mexico State at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
