In a South Carolina Target, a 9-mm handgun that was loaded with eight bullets was found in the toy section. The weapon was discovered on top of a Playskool box. Locals who visit this Target believe that the gun was left on purpose in the hopes that a tragedy would occur.
Target shopper, Kennedy McClain commented on the situation saying, “I don’t think someone would accidentally drop off a gun. I think he purposely left it there for a child to pick up and think, ‘Oh it’s a toy gun’, and accidentally point it at somebody and it goes off.”
The handgun was discovered by a store employee who then reported it to the Myrtle Beach Police department. The worker informed police authorities that on the evening of the May 30 incident, a suspicious male was seen loitering in the aisles.
Target PR specialist Evan Lapiska spoke with local station WMBF and said that they couldn’t reveal specific details “because this matter is under active investigation. We take these matters very seriously and we are partnering with local law enforcement on this incident. The safety and security of our team members and guests is a top priority for Target.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective H. Jones at 843-918-1911.
