Saturday February 4, 2012 is a marathon for paranormal horror on the Lifetime movie network and it’s not just in New Orleans. By going to LMN’s website you can get the full list of today’s schedule. All movies feature a supernatural and not just an attempt at being scary.
Two of the movies are two that I have either written on or mentioned in the past. As I write this, the dark and relatively true story of The Mothman is being told with Richard Gere as the star. His wife is diagnosed with a tumor in New York and she sees something with glowing red eyes and has an accident on a relatively quiet street. She dies and he has a hard time dealing with hit. For some reason Gere’s character, a reporter is reportedly seen multiple times on the outskirts of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. When he actually makes that trip, the home owner pulls a shot gun on him and holds him for the town sheriff, (Laura Linney) to show up. I think she understands the town’s paranormal aspect and gets the home owner to release Gere to her. As an actress, Linney has an impressive paranormal resume, another of her movies, “The Exorcism of Emily Rose is also on today.”
After the Mothman Prophecies is “Hush” with Gwyneth Paltrow. Not exactly a paranormal thriller and a movie that I saw a while ago that I did not like. She marries this guy she absolutely adores and they decide to have a baby. She’s got an insidious plot to keep her son all to herself and its hinted that she wants to have an incestuous relationship. While disgusting it is not actually a paranormal horror. It’s just a thriller.
After Hush is Orphan. I’ve wanted to watch this movie since 2009. The little Orphan girl has serious mental problems with a bizarre twist. From what I read on Wikipedia, this horror movie is going to be really good. I am going to see if I can get it on Netflix to watch a full and unedited version rather than LMN’s edited version.
After Orphan is “The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which I reported on a few weeks ago, Possessing Piper Rose, and a story about a child who can see Spirits (think 6th Sense) in a movie called, “Within.” Within seems to be a very intriguing movie about a little girl who not only sees ghosts but has visions of terrible happenings. LMN’s description calls the little girl, Rachel, “a sweet little girl with a troubled soul,” and apparently so after dealing with seeing ghosts, she makes a friend. Only then does she have visions of violence against the town’s children and it has something to do with her new little friend being not who she thought she was, much like Orphan.
Possessing Piper Rose stars Rebecca Romijn, (my favorite XMen villain, Mystique.) Romijn plays a successful business woman with a great marriage. What they do not have in their successful two income family is a child. For whatever reason, Romijn’s character cannot have children. They are presented with a possible illegal adoption of a little girl named, Piper Rose. They are okay with it until, of course, strange things begin to happen around the baby. The movie questions whether the adorable child is being haunted or if the angelic little blond girl is something more sinister, a demon in disguise maybe. The LMN quote on this states that its, “A tense, supernatural thriller that takes on the question of what it means to be a mother.”
