An Aug. 21 report via LittleLeague.org indicates that Japan defeated Mexico to advance to the International Championship game this coming Saturday. The winner of that game will play in the 2013 Little League World Series. Japan are of course the reigning champs, and they dispatched of Mexico on Wednesday thanks to a three-run fifth inning from the team. Kazuki Ishida's home run in the fifth inning helped turn around the team's fortunes for the game, breaking a 2-2 tie. The rest was history, as a crowd of 13,549 reportedly watched the contest at Lamade.
Meanwhile, the Latin American squad from Panama enters today's matchup coming off their 8 to 7 win over Asia Pacific on Tuesday. The Latin American team rallied in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs to aid in their defeat of Asia Pacific. According to the Little League recap, Panama's team manager, Luis Gonzalez, said of his team's perseverance, “This wasn’t the first time we had to battle back, I just had to keep the team motivated."
Wednesday provided a day off to prepare and await the losers of the previous contest. Could the rest factor play a part in determining today's winner, or will the rested team be rustier than their adversaries?
