The Hollywood Reporter is reporting today that Lifetime will air the true story of Lizzie Borden in a new movie tomorrow. "Lizzie Borden Took An Axe" is a 2014 fact-based movie that could possibly be inspired by the 1992 New York Times article "Lizzie Borden Took An Ax" It is directed by Nick Gomez. The cast includes: Christina Ricci, Billy Campbell and Clea Duvall, according to the New York Times.

A girl arrives home to find that someone has murdered her father, stepmother and sister with an axe. Lizzie Borden tells police that she knows nothing about the murder. But, police suspect that the murderer is close to home. This movie covers the 1893 investigation and murder trial of Lizzie Borden.

According to Traciy Curry-Reyes of the Movies Based On True Stories Archives, the real Lizzie Borden story dominated newspapers in 1892, when it was discovered that a young girl had hacked her whole family with an axe. The Lizzie Borden trial created a frenzied media sensation in 1893. There is a wealth of information online about Lizzie Borden. There are also a number of movies that have been inspired by the old murder case, as well as documentaries.

"Lizzie Borden Took An Ax" will air on Lifetime on January 25.
