Few in Hollywood were quite as stylish and fashionable as Elizabeth Taylor. From her immaculately tailored clothes to her one-of-a-kind jewels, she was the ultimate fashionista. Today’s actresses may rock the red carpet with borrowed gems, but Taylor owned her diamonds, rubies and pearls, among others.
According to a Feb. 21 Los Angeles Times report, Bulgari is celebrating the style of the Oscar-winning actress during Oscars 2013 week with an exhibit of eight of her precious Bulgari baubbles. The jewelry house reacquired some of Taylor’s jewelry at a Christie’s auction.
Included in the collection is Taylor’s first piece of Bulgari jewelry, according to the Daily Mail. It is an emerald-and-diamond brooch which also doubles as a pendant. It broke all sales price records for both emeralds and emeralds per carat, records, selling for $6,578,500 at the auction. For those calculating, that is $280,000 per carat. The Los Angeles Times reports that this brooch/pendant piece was Richard Burton’s engagement present to Taylor.
Also included in the exhibit are Taylor’s engagement ring from Burton, and other brooches and necklaces. The display is open by private appointments at the Italian jewelry house in Beverly Hills.
