Liz Cheney is running for United States Senate in Wyoming against fellow Republican Sen. Mike Enzi. Someone in her opponent’s campaign has capitalized on the fact that her sister, Mary Cheney, is openly gay and married to her partner. Pollsters were indicating in phone calls that Cheney was an avid supporter of same-sex marriage like her father, former vice-president Dick Cheney. The candidate has issued a statement that she is not pro-gay marriage, and she reaffirmed that she is indeed pro-life, according to an Aug. 30 report on Washington Post.com.
Liz Cheney actually supports states being able to determine whether same sex marriage is legal in their particular state. In recent years, this stance has become a comfortable hiding place for those who wish to remain out of the fray on hot-button political issues such as same-sex marriage, abortion, and the legalization of marijuana.
Cheney has received the support of Conservative talk-show host, Sean Hannity, in her Senate run. She frequently appears as a political commentator on Hannity’s Fox News television program.
