According to an April 18 report from MMA Junkie, not much drama went down at the UFC on FOX 11 weigh-in. All 26 fighters competing at UFC on FOX 11 made weight, including heavyweight headliners Travis Browne (15-1-1 MMA, 6-1-1 UFC) and Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC).
Bantamweight contenders Liz Carmouche (9-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Miesha Tate (13-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) were also on the mark for their UFC on FOX 11 co-main tilt. Carmouche weighed in at 135 pounds, while Tate tipped the scales at 135.5.
Edson Barboza (13-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) and Donald Cerrone (22-6 MMA, 9-3 UFC), who fight in the swing bout of the UFC on FOX 11 main card, also hit their contracted weight requirements without issue. Barboza was 156, while Cerrone was 155.5. Yoel Romero (185.5) and Brad Tavares (185) were also on the mark for their UFC on FOX 11 clash.
In preliminary card action, Derrick Lewis (256) and Jack May (252.5) were both well under the 260-pound heavyweight limit for their fight. Mirsad Bektic (146) and Chas Skelly (145) both made weight for their 145-pound bout, and Dustin Ortiz (125.5) vs. Ray Borg (125.5) is on for tonight.
The UFC on FOX 11 weigh-in was a true snooze-fest as far as drama goes. However, there was excitement in the air when Carmouche's coach, Manolo Hernandez of the San Diego Combat Academy, walked out with a comically tiny backpack on his back. Hernandez is a handsome, but burly man. With that said, it's always hilarious when he sports mini backpacks during UFC fight night weigh-in events.
Hernandez, one of the most marketable young faces in the MMA game today, has made it tradition to wear tiny backpacks during Carmouche's UFC fights, as last night marked his fourth appearance in a tiny backpack under the Zuffa banner. Late last year, Hernandez said he wears tiny backpacks because he hopes to someday secure a backpack sponsorship.
