Lix & Kix are throwing even more surprises into the winter, lake-effect mix.
On Saturday, January 16, Dianne Borsenik and John “Jesus Crisis” Burroughs will take their Cleveland-based show on the road for an epic poetry festival in North East, Pennsylvania that they’ve christened “Snoetry: A Winter Wordfest.”
Stats of the event: more than 40 poets and musicians have been booked, from 6 states, for 11 hours of poetry. A list of scheduled performers can be found here.
After Borsenik and Burroughs gave a September reading at The Last Wordsmith Book Shoppe, (just outside of Erie, PA) Burroughs says he jokingly suggested that they host a poetry festival there. Jokes became serious, and before long, Borsenik, Burroughs, and Megan Collins, owner of the store, birthed Snoetry.
Although a majority of the poets and performers to be featured at Snoetry hail from Cleveland and other parts of Ohio, Borsenik and Burroughs hope the Pennsylvania show will be more central for performers who wouldn’t make it to a Cleveland show. It should also be an ideal networking atmosphere for poets and performers in the midwest to northeast region of the country. They also hope that local press coverage in the Erie-area will boost attendance.
Unconcerned about the possibility of weather hampering attendance, Borsenik notes that most of their projected attendees are from Ohio and Pennsylvania, where the snow “doesn’t stop them from getting out in the winter.” Other snow-tested states to be represented include New York, Connecticut, and Massachusettes.
When asked about how this event will differ from a normal Lix & Kix presentation, Borsenik balks at the suggestion of a “normal Lix & Kix show”. However, she does note that they created Snoetry and scheduled it out of state to “shake things up a bit”. Both hosts use the word “organic” in describing their plans for the way the festival will run this weekend, and say that they wanted to create a Woodstock-esque poetry event. (They even initially wanted to call the event “Wordstock”, but changed the name after Google turned up another event with the name.)
