Livingstone's Wright Alive and Well in Portugal

There has been a sighting of former Livingstone standout shooting guard/small forward Brittany Wright. Actually, there have been at least two sightings and probably a third today somewhere on the Iberian Peninsula.

Wright signed with Olivais of the Liga Feminina in Portugal back in December. She immediately saw action in the ensuing two games.

Entering today's game against GDESSA, Wright has averaged 5.5 points in 17 minutes. She had seven points and six rebounds in a 72-62 loss to AD Vagos on Dec. 11. A week later, she scored four points and grabbed four rebounds in 16 minutes of play in a 59-44 loss to AFC-Liberty South. Olivais is 5-6 pending the outcome of today's game against GDESSA.

Wright lives and plays home games in Coimbra, Portugal, a far cry from the halls of Livingstone in Salisbury, North Carolina.

While playing for the Lady Blue Bears from 2008 to 2011, Wright amassed 1,011 career points. She averaged 13.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

When she graduated last May, she was third all-time in blocks, fourth in total rebounds and fifth in total points. Her best season was her senior year where she averaged 15.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and two steals per game.

"Our program was extremely lucky to have a player of Brittany's caliber," Livingstone head coach Angelyne Brown said.

Technically, Olivais is Wright's second Eurobasket team. She auditioned for the league at the Eurobasket Summer League in Atlanta last July. An above-average performance earned her a starting five assignment with France in August. Olivais came calling in December, signed her immediately and flew her to Portugal in time for that day's game against AD Vagos.
