Denver powerpop band Regret Night played last Friday night at the Marquis Theater to celebrate the release of their latest EP Living the Night Life--and they invited three other bands to help them celebrate.
The evening opened at 8:30 PM with The Shake-Up Brigade, who had a lot of energy but suffered from pitch problems. Next up was a strong performance by Nautical Mile, a female-fronted modern rock act who was one of Channel 93:3's Top 12 local bands for Hometown for the Holidays 2009.
The Battleship Agenda, another Top 12 band (and also female-fronted), played next with their flavor of alt-punk, arresting the audience's attention with a new song that marked a clear expansion of their sound, and was quite well-received.
By the time headliners Regret Night took the stage, the fans were well warmed-up by the opening acts (all of whom were personally invited by Regret Night). Playing songs from their new EP, as well as older tunes familiar to their fans, this high-energy band kept the party atmosphere going for the enthusiastic crowd. The one downside to the set was a series of technical difficulties that halted the band's momentum at times, but which they took in stride.
The long-awaited EP has a high production value and shows clear growth from the band, which formed in 2006. Likewise, the concert celebrating its release did not disappoint--a great night of music all around.
