Living sustainably: Enter Vallejo's 2014 Scrap to Sculpture recyclable contest

Welcome to the latest issue of our Living Sustainably series.

You've got just four days to enter Vallejo's 4th annual Scrap to Sculpture contest. Timed to culminate on Earth Day 2014 (Saturday, April 19), this fun event is a good example that shows how a number of city departments ((The City of Vallejo, Recology Vallejo, Vallejo Sanitation and Flood Control and VALCORE Recycling) can partner for a great cause.

Starting Tuesday, April 1 all ages are invited to bring their works of art to City Hall for consideration in this contest. There are size and weight limitations and all art must be made totally out of recycled materials. VALCORE Recycling Re-Use Barn is reminding folks that they can rummage there for fixings to add to their art work.

And the contest rewards ain't shabby: Three adult prizes (ranging from $100 to $1000) will be awarded and the kids prizes (also three of them) range from $25 to $100. The winning entries will be announced at the Earth Day event taking place at the corner of Marin and Virginia Streets.

Consult this page for further details...and note, should you fall in love with your entry...think twice about entering it as none of the contest entries, per the City of Vallejo's Recycling Coordinator Derek Crutchfield, will be returned.
