Summer is a terrific time to enjoy the beauty and wonder of the great outdoors. This is also a perfect time to get back to the basics. Sometimes it is important to unplug head outdoors and enjoy the simple joys of life. So here are some ideas for enjoyable things for children to use in their play that cost nothing or next to nothing. And, best of all, they encourage children to move and use their imaginations.
Bubble wrap (sounds cool to pop and a good fine motor activity)
White tissue paper (makes nice noise as it is crumpled and another good fine motor activity)
Cardboard boxes, large and small (they can be painted, used to crawl in, possibilities are endless in the hands of an imaginative child)
Paper, glue, glitter, crayons (imaginative play and creativity)
Plastic containers and lids (fine motor, creativity)
Hula hoops—great fun and exercise and a great coordination activity.
Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles! A perfect activity for outdoors. Bubbles are fun to make and watch as they float about.
Walking in the woods or on the beach.
Don’t forget about going to the local library and taking advantage of all they have to offer.
Plus do not forget how much young children like to play with their parents! Just playing a board game or taking a walk with your child can make for memorable times. Spending time with your child is one of the best gifts you can give them and it costs absolutely nothing, yet the benefits last a lifetime.
