One of the criticisms of Liverpool this season has been that they have no one that is capable of standing in for captain Steven Gerrard when necessary. However, according to reports from TalkSPORT on Apr. 28, 2014, there appears to be an answer in the making for the Anfield club.

There is belief that the Reds are linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen youngster Emre Can. Having worked his way through the ranks of Leverkusen over the past few campaigns, Can has emerged as one of standout young players in the German Bundesliga.

With Sami Hyypia at the helm of Leverkusen there is a chance the manager could be willing to listen to offers for his German U21 international. However, it will take a strong offer from the Reds to ensure they have a chance at bringing in their intended target.

In an interview with the Express, Can commented that he wants success with Leverkusen, “I’m not concerned with Bayern’s buyback clause. I want to have success with Bayer. Right now I’m not interested in what happens in two years.”

Can’s comments appear as though his mind is only focused for Bayer in the coming years, but there is always a chance that the allure of the English Premier League and a club such as Liverpool will be too much to say no to.
