It seems as though the odd stuff in auctions usually gets all the attention and that's the case with this year's Beatles Week auction, sponsored by the Beatles Shop in Liverpool. The auction is being held Aug. 28 at the Paul McCartney Auditorium at The Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts.
This year's offerings include -- and the one that's gotten a lot of press coverage -- a toilet of John Lennon's from Tittenhurst Park mansion. The item, lot #250, includes a letter detailing how it was removed by Lynbourne Heating and Domestic Services and given to the vendor's father-in-law with instructions from Lennon saying, "Take it, put some flowers in it orsomething.’ The estimated worth is £750-£1000 (roughly $1162-$1550). (You can see a picture of the toilet here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/aug/23/lennon-toilet-sale-beatles-memorabilia)
We have pictures of some of the other items in the auction in the slideshow below. They include early tickets and concert programs, autographs and other memorabilia.
Details on how to bid on the auction are here: http://www.beatlesauction.co.uk/p/buyer-notes.html. You can download the auction program here: http://www.booweb.co.uk/auction/auction2010.pdf.

oh brother, a toilet...you knew it had to happen someday
What about the rumor that George had a hand carved wood toliet in his Maui home that played Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds when it was flushed?
I hope no one buys this stupid loo. Nothing better demonstrates that the hagiography of Lennon has gone WAY too far than the presence of this toilet on an auction list.
I think the whole celebrity thing is what causes something like this. This could have happened to any celeb, really. I wonder if anyone will actually buy the thing.
Got something to say?
