Live Ultimate and Equinox South Beach teamed up earlier this month to sponsor the Live Ultimate Ocean Drive 5K Charity Run to raise money to end child hunger.

Originally known as the Ocean Drive Run, the event began 11 years ago when Marc Wachter was looking at a fun way his friends could run together, and has grown steadily.

"We had a great turnout of over 1,600 runners this year which makes us one of the larger 5k road races in the area," said Wachter, who is president and CEO of Live Ultimate, a new luxury health style brand. He changed the name of the run to reflect his new company.

The run benefited Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign, a national initiative to end child hunger by 2015. Although the figures haven't been tallied yet, Wachter said that a "significant" amount of money was raised to benefit the charity.

“With nearly one in five children in America suffering from hunger, this is more than just a run, it is a gathering inspired by the idea that together we can become the difference that can make the difference,” Wachter said.

Equinox South Beach was the presenting sponsor and also sponsored special runner's training session a few weeks prior to it so runners could experience the 5-K course.
