“I usually avail myself of benefits of any kind,” says comedian Todd Yohn. “But this one kind of struck a strong note…being a musician and having a love for music. They said ‘we’re going to pop this thing Sunday night,’ and I said ‘let’s do it.’” So in addition to his Wednesday through Saturday appearance at Go Bananas, Yohn will also headline the Michael W. Bany Scholarship Fund Fundraiser on Sunday night at the club. “Anything I can do to help. It’s a great cause and a great way to keep (Bany’s) memory going.” Though Yohn has been a stand-up comic for over 25 years, his musical roots run deep. “My dad sang in a barbershop quartet, and my mother sang on Broadway,” he says. “She sang with Vic Damone, and was actually proposed to by Vic Damone. I could have been Todd Damone.” Yohn played in a blues band for years, before accepting a dare to do an open mic at a Raleigh comedy club. The club owner subsequently hired Yohn to be the MC, and a new career was launched. He didn’t give up on music entirely though, he just folded it into his comedy. “I have really strong musical integrity in my songs,” he explains, “with very inane lyrics. It gives me a little bit of both worlds. I know I can write good stuff, and I can still sing it…but I can also be goofy with it.”

Todd Yohn performs at Go Bananas in the Festival market Place, Montgomery, Wednesday November 25 through Sunday November 28. Showtime is 8:00, 9:00 Thanksgiving Night. 8:00 and 10:30 Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $8-$12. $15 for Sunday’s benefit show, $10 with a canned food item. 513-984-9288
