Live Ringo Starr-Rory Storm disc to be premiered on BBC radio today

The story about the exciting live Rory Storm CD that we wrote about yesterday immediately got a little complicated when the Amazon.co.uk listing for it disappeared Friday. As of this writing, it still hasn't returned.

But famed Beatles author Spencer Leigh (“The Beatles in Hamburg”) says he'll be playing a couple of tracks from it on his BBC Radio Merseyside show "On the Beat" tonight. The show begins at 1800 hours London time (1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT).

“I'm planning to play a couple of tracks on my BBC Radio Merseyside show tonight and so you could hear them on 'Listen Again' (the BBC radio archive streaming) if you wish.”

(Update: We found the live broadcast isn't available over the internet, at least to the U.S., but the "Listen Again" archive page, linked above, will hopefully allow it to be heard here.)

In reference to Amazon pulling the listing, he said, “As far as I know there are no hold-ups” to releasing the disc. It's still listed on Proper Music.

About the disc, he says “It's a live concert professionally recorded in March 1960, so (it's) quite a find,” he says. “The band is ragged but they sound really exciting.” He compares their sound to Johnny Kidd and the Pirates.

The album will be released on Rockstar Records. Leigh says it'll being launched at the Beatles Convention on Aug. 26 in Liverpool.
