“Stonebender” performed Sat, Jan 4th 2014 at Flight’s Pub in Everett for a benefit show for Ladies Who Rock.
Ladies Who Rock is a calendar of 12 women who rock for 2014 in the amazingly sexy yet tastefully done calendar by Dianne Kennedy who put the concept together; Bill Bungard is the photographer for the calendar.
The lead singer for Stonebender, Nollie [DeVol], is one of the Ladies Who Rock [LWR] and is Miss June.
Nollie DeVol (Vocals & Bass), Johnny DeVol (Guitar), Paul Higgins (Drums) fuel “Stonebender”. They are a powerhouse female-fronted Hard Rock and Metal band.
Flight’s Pub was quite the contrary to what I heard.
First, the cozy stage was lit up like fireworks on the 4th of July. Lighting was in the hands of Polecat Kelley, a brilliant lighting technician who is arguably one of the Greater Seattle Area’s best lighting experts on today’s music scene.
Second, Kelley “gets it”. Image is extremely important to bands, and Kelley’s lighting expertise gives photographers the chance to make the bands shine like they should with flashes of blue, green, red, yellow and more.
The lighting of Flight’s Pub propelled the energy of the live music of “Stonebender” and really marked a turning point for this female-fronted hard rock/metal band. They rocked. And then they rocked some more.
Nollie sang with conviction. Her use of vibrato was spot on. She knew instinctively when to powerfully extend a note resulting in the audience quieting to listen to her commanding vocals. Her live music performance was stellar. Top-notch and a must see.
Johnny rocked it on the guitar in this live music concert, and was fun to watch and exciting to listen to. He is the ultimate professional and any flat or pitchy sounds were not something that he let sway him. He kept playing on.
On drums, Paul kept the beat solid without outweighing the rest of the band by having the sound on the drums too loud. It was pitch-perfect and ultimately a professional set.
The set list was remarkable. “Stonebender” impressed as Flight’s Pub didn’t’ have a full house, and that gets in the head of some bands and they don’t play as well as they do with a full house. Not true with this live concert music by “Stonebender”.
They didn’t take notice and played as if the house was packed. Just as a professional band does in live music concert and just like a national band does in live music concert. Their professionalism impressed and wowed the crowd in harmonious applause after each song.
