San Marcos, Texas rock/blues/indie act, The Couch is performing tonight at The Mohawk with Zlam Dunk and Little Radar. The Couch has a sound similar to The Bright Light Social Hour that melds blues-rock and indie music with a danceable beat. The show is being presented by From the Mind of Adi and Transmission Entertainment.
This evening's performance is a CD release of new The Couch recording, "Old and Touchin' Blue" which Examiner had a chance to listen to prior to this evening's show at the epicenter of the Red River District tonight. We liked the singles, "Close to You" and "The Way You Came" which both boast bluesy guitar, deep, grooving bass lines and enough energy to prompt images of dancing fans in our head.
Here is more on the band from their official bio:
The band’s first single “Close To You”, a rhythmic, summer anthem track from their EP released in the summer of 2011, was featured as KUT’s “song of the day”. Their second single, “The Way You Came” falls into a similar category, melding true rock with blues and soul, while combining a danceable beat with unrelenting lyrics. The band began as a three-piece (whose members also play in The Calm Blue Sea and Frank Smith) comprised of Taylor Wilkins (guitarist, vocals), Jud Johnson (percussion) and Kyle Robarge (bassist). Since recording the album, The Couch has added multi-instrumentalist Sara Houser (keys, piano, guitar, vocals) to add to the overall aesthetic of the band’s developing sound.Old and Touchin’ Blue was recorded, mixed and mastered by Lars Goransson at Sounds Outrageous Studio in Austin, Texas. The band recorded in three sessions beginning in February 2010, and released a few songs in the summer of 2011 available via download. After taking the best five tracks from the first two recording sessions, The Couch finished Old and Touchin’ Blue in October 2011, adding four tracks to complete the final album. The album represents the band’s developing personality and sound while retaining their original raw elements of roots rock and roll.
