Live from Silversea Cruises Silver Spirit: Spa specials

Today’s special at the Spa at Silversea

On board Silversea Cruises’ Silver Spirit-- position: 22:50.30 North and 22.00.20 West at a speed of 15.5 knots—day #3 at sea with no land in sight until Antigua in 4 more days.  We left our last port (San Sebastian Gomera, Spain)  3 days ago.

The days at sea seem to fly by with plenty of diversions available, one of which is the lovely, little spa—a serene sanctuary--where one can easily surrender mind and body to total pampered bliss.  The options are many from Elemis facials to body therapies, massages and even teeth whitening.

Operated by the omnipresent Steiner, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida—which has the seafaring market cornered from the mega ships of Carnival, Princess, Holland America and mid-sized Crystal Cruises ships, to smaller vessels  such as the Spirit which totes 540-passengers and the yachts of of Seabourn.

The price of pampering is stiff, but specials are offered daily, like today’s “Aroma Flex”—25-minute back, neck and shoulder massage, followed  by a 25 minute foot reflexology session for $109 that’s a savings of $49.

While few on this upscale ship need to “budget” the spa also features lower priced “Express Services” for people who don’t want to give up valuable pool/deck time, or miss Bingo or other scheduled activities.

These  25-minute treatments include: a mani for$29; a massage for $59; couples rub for $135 and more.  You can also get what they call “10 minute indulgences” like an eyebrow tweeze for $15, “Diva Delight” nail polish and sunglow finish for $12, a $10 manicure, neck and shoulder massage or $25 and more.

Regular services cost $325 for a 75 minute facial; $135 and up for 50 minute facials—all well worth the price; $159 and up for massages (which are superior); hair styling from $40, waxing from $15 and a whole lot more choices than one would expect at sea. If you’re interested, teeth whitening cots $199.

There are coed steams and saunas at the spa (a sore point with some passengers who prefer these were separate for men and women as it proves awkward to go from locker room to the facilities in robes or towels and you pretty much need to wear a swims suit), a fitness center with treadmills, elliptical machines, weights, fit balls, free classes like Pilates, Yoga, ab flattening, and stretch etc., and extra fee personal training and specialized sessions to keep you fit.

With all the delicious meals on board, served in four unique restaurants, the fitness center and nearby jogging track is essential to control the otherwise possible expansion of hips and waist lines. It would appear that most of the passengers agree, since both areas are pretty packed throughout the days, especially the ones when we’re at sea.

There’s a scale which few dare to step on, particularly after today’s galley buffet which offered a sinful selection of irresistible desserts. Which reminds me, I better hit the gym. But  I will return to tell you more about this two week cruise on Silversea Cruises’ Silver Spirit from Lisbon to Barbados. For additional information on  Silversea click on: www.silversea.com.
