Live from New York, it's Paul McCartney!

Paul McCartney has just announced he'll be the musical guest Dec. 11 on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." Paul Rudd will be the show's guest host.

The appearance comes two days ahead of his exclusive concert at the Apollo Theater to be broadcast live on Sirius/XM satellite radio

McCartney previously appeared as a musical guest in 1980 and 1993. The '93 appearance featured a great comedy bit with Chris Farley. (See left.) He also did a surprise cameo in 2006.

Perhaps he's going to give us a listen to some of his new songs from the CD that was mentioned here a few weeks back...Maybe..I hope.

I was wondering why Paul hadn't done any promotion at all in the States for his Band on the Run reissue. He was saving it all up for December with this SNL show and the Sirius radio show. I suppose it was related to his child-care issues and then the South America tour.

geeze another event the real fans don't have access to.

Paul has been touring all over the U.S. for two years in a row now. You've had plenty of opportunities to have access to one of his shows. And you can always watch SNL on TV. I fail to see how you're being denied anything that's due you.

The gig at the Apollo is invitation-only. There is no way to buy a ticket (officially--although I'm sure some will appear on the aftermarket at atrocious prices). Which means that even with 125 pairs of tickets being given away by Sirius/XM, that's only 250 seats for fans in a theater that seats 1500. The rest will no doubt be assorted celebrities, moochers, "the well-connected", and Sirius/XM fatcats. That's a bit sad, as this is the kind of gig fans would die for.
