‘Live From Lincoln Center’ premieres George Balanchine's The Nutcracker on PBS

For those who love Christmas, but can’t get to New York City to see a classical favorite, PBS is the place to be watching on Wednesday night.  George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, filmed at the David H. Kock Theater will be the featured presentation that is absolutely cherished during the holiday season. Performed by the New York City’s Ballet and 50 children from the School of American Ballet, it will be a night to remember.

The ballet is set to Tchaikovsky's score and features some uniquely viewpoints for the audience’s viewing pleasure. There were eight different camera locations filming the show, so the audience will no doubt get a full range of views as the performance is played out. The piece, a classic to most as it premiered in 1954, is set to Tchaikovsky's score.

While the beauty of the dance and music set in such extraordinary conditions comes to live in the performance, there is plenty of snow on stage too. According to technical director Perry Silvey, who gave Kelly Ripa a backstage tour, fifty pounds of fake snow, white paper confetti, falls on the stage. Most of the confetti is recycled from the previous performance and it all makes it look like it is snowing.
