“Live Forever,” Launched at Reggae Retro…

February 5th 2011

Doors were opened at 10PM and by 12:15AM the crowd was ready to get lifted with “Live Forever.” 1st Saturday’s at Reggae Retro did not disappoint. Along with the album launch, the theme of the night was unity and the celebration of Black History. It was the best contrast, having love and warmth shared by reggae fans on the inside from the cold and icy conditions on the outside. The fans were “coming in from the cold.” Die-hard Bob Marley fans wore T-shirts that bore the image of “The Legend,” and sang along to the selections of reggae music.

Representatives from Universal Music Group: Randy Thomas and Brittany Clarke pleasantly gave information to inquiring minds about the newly released Live Forever album along with commemorative items such as Posters, buttons and other memorabilia.

Before Hip Hop was considered a culture or lifestyle, reggae was and still is. The event drew a cross section of people from many parts of the world that cherished the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Folks from the Caribbean, Uganda, Ethiopia, Germany, South America and the UK now residing in New York, expressed being influenced by the Wailers at a considerable young age. Some even got to see the Bob live when he toured in their homeland. “Live Forever,” wasn’t just an album launch, it was an experience.

Reggae Retro, Who hosted the event was founded by Terry Bethel, Niya Bascom, Roger Thomas and Debbie Belle. From its inception, it has grown into a movement. Reggae Retro's 'following' continues to pack the dancehall with standing room only, showing no signs of slowing down. Reggae Retro is here to stay.

After the crowed was warmed by the various reggae and dance hall hits, DJs Jase and Silence brought the sounds of the new album into early hours of Bob’s Birthday. The crowd responded by singing the songs word for word throughout the night into the early morning, some with tears in their eyes.
