Live coverage of Chile earthquake and rescue efforts (streaming video)
The death toll continues to rise as more information is available regarding the 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile this morning surfaces. At 147 fatalities, the full extent of the damage is not yet realized. Roads are blocked, power is out in many areas, and information is sketchy. As the Pacific braces for tsunamis, Chile continues to deal with aftershocks. There have been at least 33 aftershocks felt since this morning’s earthquake, including a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Argentina.
There are many small towns and villages that are without power, and the full extent of damage in those areas is not clear. Social media networks and Google have become the primary source of current information coming from Chile.
