A live-action adaptation of "Titanfall" is in development, according to an official press release by developer Respawn Entertainment Tuesday.

Coinciding with last night's midnight release of "Titanfall" for the Xbox One and PC, Respawn and Playfight, the VFX company behind "Call of Duty: Operation Kingfish" and "Video Game High School," announced their partnership in creating live-action content for the game via a teaser site. Here's the official description provided by Respawn Entertainment’s Dusty Welch.

Titanfall is set in a rich near future universe with visceral, epic battles with Pilots and their Titan companions. We wanted to partner with Playfight, who has a history of delivering movies that meld gameplay, live action and stellar CG into truly entertaining media, for Titanfall. What this collaboration brings is yet to unfold…

The announcement of a live-action "Titanfall" series was likely the big announcement Respawn planned yesterday and not Microsoft's acquisition of the franchise it was misinterpreted as. Considering the heavy marketing and anticipation behind "Titanfall," such as the 6,000 launch parties held last night, furthering the game's popularity with a live-action program makes sense from a business standpoint and should delight fans who can't get enough "Titanfall." Another Xbox One game, "Ryse: Son of Rome," received a live-action webseries by Machinima last November.
