The Education Alliance
It is important for everyone in Arkansas to be aware of the Education Alliance if they are homeschooling. This organization is an offshoot of the Family Council and they have an office in Little Rock. In a nutshell, they offer support, advice and many services to homeschool families throughout the state.
One of the services the Education Alliance offers is an annual homeschool convention. There are two locations every year. The first is in Searcy and the other is in Springdale. Early registration for the 2010 conference at either location will be $15.00 per family. After that, the registration goes up to $20.00. This is a great deal. Many homeschool conferences cost a lot more. Details will be up on their website soon.
Every homeschooler in Arkansas should visit the Education Alliance’s website and request a free homeschool information packet. See the link at the end of the article for contact information. The packet includes everything you will need to begin homeschooling in Arkansas legally. The notice of intent and waiver forms are included with instructions on how to fill them out. Information about homeschooling and checklists of what to do and when are included. There is also an additional packet for high schoolers. Anyone homeschooling a high school student should request this. It contains important information about SAT, ACT and other testing, graduation requirements and how to organize a home school high school. All of this information is free.
Other services provided by the Education Alliance is a high school graduation ceremony. This is not a free service but the fee is extremely reasonable. A graduation packet will be sent to you with all of the information needed. Transcripts will have to be submitted along with photographs of the student and payment. Graduation is a ceremony with caps and gowns. Students receive a diploma and it is a very special time for all.
A homeschool national honor society is sponsored by the Education Alliance. Any homeschooled high school student meeting the requirements can join. Any Arkansas homeschooler who is performing well should join this honor society. It is based in Little Rock.
Although the Education Alliance is an offshoot of the faith based Family Council, they are there to help all homeschool families in Arkansas regardless of religious beliefs. It is a resource for everyone who homeschools in Arkansas. Be sure to stay informed about homeschooling in Arkansas.
