The 2013 LLWS schedule is gearing up for day 3 of competition, but before we get to today’s schedule, let’s do a quick recap of day 2. The four winners on the day were Asia-Pacific, Japan, Mid-Atlantic and last but not least, the West team. If you didn’t catch the West vs. Great Lakes game, you missed a bit of LLWS history.
According to littleleague.org on Aug 16, Grant Holman and the West team have sure made an early impression in the 2013 LLWS. Holman threw a no-hitter yesterday afternoon vs. Great Lakes helping the West advance on to winners bracket while Great Lakes will be in a must win situation as they head to the losers bracket in this double-elimination tournament.
Holman was dominate the entire game vs. the Great Lakes team, but lost in all the celebration of his LLWS no-hitter was how good Great Lakes' starter Chad Lorkowski pitched. Lorkowski allowed only one hit, striking out 12 and matching his counterpart pitch for pitch, but in the end Great Lakes fell short.
Both teams should feel good about their efforts yesterday and so should both starting pitchers. It looks like Holman and Lorkowski have the beginning talent to one day play in the big leagues!
It will be hard for today’s action to top yesterday’s, but that’s what the tournament is all about. What team and which players will step up next and make us say “That kid is going to be a good one,” next.
Be sure to catch all of today’s exciting LLWS action streaming online or on TV via ESPN or ABC.
