‘Little House on the Prairie’ actor Richard Bull, Mr. Oleson dies

Richard Bull was a character actor best known as the long suffering Nels Oleson on “Little House on the Prairie. He passed away on Monday at the age of 89 according to a Feb. 4 post on People.

The NBC show ran from 1974 until 1983 and chronicled the lives of the Ingalls family living in the American West of the 1800s as described by Laura Ingalls Wilder in her ‘Little House’ book series.

Melissa Gilbert who played Laura Ingalls in the show tweeted after learning of his death, "This man will be missed. Goodbye Richard working with you was such a joy but nearly as joyful as being your friend."

The actor was born in Zion, Ill. in 1924. He married actress Barbara Collentine in 1948.

Mr. Oleson was a beloved character on the show. He was married to the nagging and shrewish Harriet Oleson played by Scottie MacGregor.

He also had roles in the 1964-68 ABC series “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” where he played Doc. Bull made appearances on “Little House on the Prairie” cast mate Michael Landon’s new show, “Highway to Heaven” in 1985 and 1988.

In 1994, the Bulls moved to Chicago from Los Angeles but his death is reported as taking place in Calabasas, Calif. He is survived by his wife.
