TRH The Earl and Countess of Strathearn, had decidedly different levels of success with the children of Scotland today. The royals, known more widely as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were at Emirates Arena when Prince William encountered a young girl named Shona, dressed in a princess costume. According to the Daily Mail, the girl had a flower in her hand and he politely asked if she had intended it for him. When the child pulled the flower away she gestured towards his wife, the former Kate Middleton. The Prince agreed, saying: “No, you want to give it to Kate. Quite right.” But when he went in to give the little girl a kiss instead she shyly pulled away. The Prince immediately saw the humor in the situation, giving the little girl a pat on the back and saying: “Next time, Shona, next time.” Her mother reported to the newspaper that young Shona had actually been hoping to get a kiss from the future King, but simply got shy when the moment arrived.
HRH The Countess of Strathearn fared a bit better as she met the gathered public. While she received the flower from Shona, who had shunned Prince William, the Countess ended up needing to dodge a flower-eating baby. While greeting people the baby reached twice towards flowers the Kate was holding making both the Countess and the crowd chuckle. She reminded the baby that the flower would probably be “not so tasty”.
