Lithopolis Honeyfest makes Columbus weekend a little sweeter

Did you know September is National Honey Month? Celebrate the importance of honeybees at the only honey festival in Ohio. Visiting the Lithopolis Honeyfest on Saturday September 12th.

The honeyfest is held annually on the grounds of Wagnall's Memorial Library. The festival will be open from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Planned events include:

  • Participate in honey tasting and learn about the flavor and textures of honey around the world presented by the Ohio State Beekeepers Association.
  • The Busy Beehive Kids Booth will include arts & crafts, face painting, hair decorating, as well as naturalists from Slate Run Metro Park.
  • At the Central Ohio Beekeepers Association Booth, kids can try on a beekeepers suit and learn all about beekeeping.
  • Observe a honey extraction at 10:30 am, 2:30 pm, and 5:00 pm on the east side of the grounds presented by the Scioto Valley Beekeepers.
  • You can also observe the creation of bee beards at 11:00 am and 4:00 pm presented by Arnold Crabtree, The Bee Man, on the small stage on Columbus Street.
  • Learn about the honeybee's contribution to mankind at Noon and 2:00 pm with beekeepers Dave and Anna Holl.
  • Enjoy a beehive inspection at 1:00pm and 3:00 pm with Ohio Department of Agriculture Beehive Inspector Barbara Blotcher

    I had no idea Lithopolis had a honeybee festival. Sounds like alot of fun. I loved all your links, lots of great ideas and places to go with the kids. Hope to get to the festival this week-end. Thank you for your ideas.
