In light of recent events in Haiti, the Harry Potter Alliance, a group who calls themself the "Dumbledore's Army for the real world", has begun a new campaign titled "Helping Haiti Heal."
The Harry Potter Alliance exists to alert the world of and help in situations concerning poverty, global warming, genocide, and equal rights. The organization has, among other things, raised funds to protect civilians in Darfur and Burma, donated over 14,000 books to promote world literacy, and helped over 900 first-time voters become registered.
Now the organization has created Helping Haiti Heal. Teaming up with Partners in Health, the HPA will be accepting donations through PayPal on their website for the victims in Haiti. Those who donate to certain categories will be eligible to win prizes in that category.
A number of authors, artists, musicians and more have teamed up to donate prizes to the HPA's HHH cause. Among these prizes are several items book lovers will enjoy.
This list includes but is not limited to:
- a full set of the Harry Potter books signed by Potter author J.K. Rowling
- a signed copy of Harlequin Valentine by Newberry Medal winner Neil Gaiman and John Bolton
- a signed copy of Terry Prachett's Wintersmith
