The Runaways were the first all-female rock group to play their own instruments, and the band also spawned the solo careers of both Joan Jett and Lita Ford. Their story was immortalized in a popular movie last year, and Ford says maybe it's time for The Runaways to reunite.
“I would love it. I can’t answer that question, but I would love it,” she told the Naperville Sun. “We were ahead of our time. Now, people are realizing we were ahead of our time. We inspired so many different artists, and not just girls.”
The guitarist is staying busy in the meantime, working with Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy camp, touring, and working on a forthcoming album, which was inspired in part by her divorce from former Nitro vocalist Jim Gillette after 16 years.
“The songs are great. I’m so happy with them,” Ford said. “It’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever written. That’s what good songs are made of, real life stories.
"A lot of people will be able to relate in many different ways . . . it’s a very inspiring album for a lot of people,” she added. “I’m looking forward to people hearing it. It’s an empowering album and it really comes from the heart.”
