English producer William Orbit released a new remix of Britney Spears' underrated track "Alien" on Saturday (May 17). He produced and wrote the spacey gem with Spears for her latest album "Britney Jean."
"ALIEN Insurrection," Orbit wrote on Twitter with a SoundCloud link to his new mix.
"Alien" is a gorgeous electronic track Orbit produced and wrote for Spears' album "Britney Jean." There was some chatter in the past about it possibly becoming a future single. Spears even performed the song live during the second leg of her Britney: Piece of Me residency in Las Vegas but it was later removed from recent shows. Any promotion (like if there was any in the first place) for "Britney Jean" has seemingly died down since the album underperformed sales wise.
The "Britney Jean" version of "Alien" is a bit of folk and a whole lot of electronica. On the track Spears once said is near and dear to her heart, she details the loneliness felt before finding love. "But the stars in the sky look like home / Take me home / And the light in your eyes lets me know I'm not alone," she sings.
Orbit ups the spacey theme behind "Alien" on his new mix. Embracing more folk music, the track is sunnier and even more '70s sounding than before with a guitar in the mix. Flourishes of synths blanket the production to make sure Spears' vocals still veer into the future. Retro but gleaming with electronica, this new mix of "Alien" sounds more like signature William Orbit than the one on "Britney Jean."
Spears' album "Britney Jean" was released in December of last year and it peaked at no. 4 on Billboard's albums chart. The record only saw two singles released from it: the aggressive EDM track "Work B**ch" and the heartbreaking ballad "Perfume." She is wrapping up the latest leg of Britney: Piece of Me tonight in Las Vegas with more shows to come later this year.
