As you gaze across majestic Bay Lake, you notice a building surrounded by tall timber and what could be the grandeur of Rocky Mountain national park geyser country. You think to yourself, "am I still in Florida?" Quickly, you realize it's all part of the Disney Magic, and you've arrived at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
A sun-drenched atrium dominated by 60-foot lodgepole pine timbers and a massive stone fireplace helps recapture the romance of rustic, century-old architecture with a contemporary flair, bringing the wilderness world of nearly 100 years ago 2,000 miles to Florida lakes and forest lands. The 727-room hideaway is accessible by boat across Seven Seas Lagoon to Magic Kingdom and by bus to all Walt Disney World theme parks, hotels and attractions.
One of the jewels of Disney Dining can be found here at Whispering Canyon Cafe, which features wood-roasted, smoked, grilled and barbecued cuisine. A family-style, all-you-can-eat restaurant with an American West motif, this casual sit-down restaurant offers a traditional American Western feast for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Morning fare includes scrambled eggs, waffles and sausage. Lunchtime features fresh deli meats and home-baked beans with fresh bread. For dinner, roasted chicken, pulled pork, pork ribs and smoked brisket are served with vegetables, and cheesecake, chocolate cake and apple-caramel pie for dessert.
“We hope to achieve a homelike feeling with old-fashioned cooking served family-style,” said Chef Lorene Vanetti. “We are using natural cooking techniques — smoking, grilling and barbecuing — which are consistent with the time period the lodge reflects.”
Aromas of breakfast meats, home fries and scrambled eggs welcome hungry pioneers to breakfast. As high noon approaches, you can choose our family-style skillet lunch or pick from our full a la carte menu featuring hot and cold sandwiches, salads and a full-choice dessert board.
Suppertime features an all-you-can-eat sampling of oven-roasted chicken, pulled pork, smoked pork ribs and smoked brisket, served with salads, vegetables and home-made breads.
It is a favorite all-you-care-to-eat restaurant in the Disney pantheon, and should definitely be at the top of your list for your next trip to the "happiest place on Earth!"
