Indie pop singer Sky Ferreira premiered her new single "You're Not the One" on Monday. On the '80s rock-inspired track, she sings about trying to get over a guy who left her out in the cold for someone else.
"You're Not the One" is the lead single from Ferreira's long awaited debut album, "Night Time, My Time." She garnered buzz last year for the gloomy synth-pop track "Everything is Embarrassing" (which was listed as one of our top songs of 2012). On "You're Not the One," Ferreira channels more of that '80s goodness.
"You're Not the One" was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid and Justin Raisen. Over some synthy guitar with an industrial kick, Ferreira bemoans falling for a guy who sadly has eyes for someone else. She masterfully channels that longing and angst into a full-blown anthemic chorus, singing, "You're not the one / Guess you're not the one!" Now that Lana Del Rey and Lorde have recently crossed over to mainstream radio, it seems like Sky will finally have her moment with this noise pop gem.
The Grant Singer-directed music video for "You're Not the One" surfaced online shortly afterword. In the flashy clip, Ferreira finds herself in the club with with "the one" she's singing about. When they aren't making out, he is off with another woman while she watches from afar. It does a great job of capturing the track's '80s vibe with Ferreira looking like a grungy version of early Madonna.
"You're Not the One" is now on iTunes. Ferreira's debut album, "Night Time, My Time," will be released on October 29.
