List of THP checkpoints in Knoxville area during 2014 New Year

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) will be conducting sobriety, driver license, and seatbelt checkpoints throughout the state on Tuesday and Wednesday during the New Year's Eve celebrations.

There is only one "no refusal" checkpoint scheduled in the area — in Sevier County. According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, "The 'No Refusal' legislation allows law enforcement officials to seek search warrants for blood samples in cases involving suspected impaired drivers."

"We will be out in force to help protect the motoring public during this festive holiday. It is our hope that citizens celebrate responsibly and don’t get behind the wheel after drinking. Drunk driving is the worst mistake you can ever make," THP Colonel Tracy Trott said.

This is a list of scheduled checkpoints in the THP's first district:

Dec. 31:

  • Union: State Route 33 at Butcher Lane (Sobriety)(Night).
  • Roane: US 70 at Caney Creek Road (Sobriety)(Night).
  • Sevier: US 441 at The Spur near Troy Lane (Sobriety)(Night).

Jan. 1:

  • Anderson: State Route 62 at Richards Lane (Sobriety)(Afternoon).
  • Knox: State Route 62 east of State Route 162 (Sobriety)(Night).
  • Loudon: Tellico Park at Saddle Dam (Driver License)(Afternoon).
  • Roane: US 70 at Caney Creek Road (Sobriety)(Night).
  • Sevier: Veterans Boulevard at Center View Road (Sobriety)(Night)(No Refusal). Note: Three individual sobriety checkpoints are listed for this same location on Jan. 1, 2014, but Monday's Department of Safety press release only shows one.

It isn't known what time they are scheduled for, but from Examiner's experience, many of the "night" checkpoints take place after 11 p.m. Don't drink and drive and have a safe and happy New Year.
