List of live music venues in Kansas City: Part 1

There are a number of wonderful live music bars in the Kansas City area; however, it would take too much time to sit down and write about all of them. So let's just start with a few of them for now.

Of course, everyone has their own preferences of music, but one of the great things about some of these individual bars is the fact that they can cater to everyone at one time or another. With that being said, we can now start the list and begin with the Riot Room.

The Riot Room: There are two sides to this particular bar, and both are wonderfully entertaining. There's the main bar, which is a relatively large room with a circular bar, a dance floor, and, of course, a stage. The stage itself has been the sturdy platform for a variety of local bands and rappers; however, these performers have not consisted of local bands only, nationally signed performers use this platform as well.

You may recognize some of them, such as: Cam'ron, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Helmet, Saliva, and many more. Though the Riot Room is home to many great bands, they also house many locally known DJ's such as: DJ Sheppa, DJ Rico of Boss Hooligan, and DJ Clockwerk.

The inside is for music lovers, and the open air back deck is for DJ's and those of you who love to cut a rug. Smokers are welcome on the deck as well. 4048 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo. 64111

The Phoenix: Located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri; this quaint little spot is the perfect place for a one-on-one rendezvous, or even just a nice little outing on the town. The Phoenix provides beautiful jazz, blues, and other live performing arts. The romantic ambiance and dim lighting of this establishment creates a mellow atmosphere for those looking for some nice R&R. 302 W. 8th St., Kansas City, Mo. 64105

The Levee: This high spirited bar offers many commodities such as food, live music, dancing and wonderful service. Early in the night it may feel like a lounge, allowing you to relax, have a cocktail, and enjoy some live music.

However, as the night continues you may find yourself shaking a tail feather on the dance floor. The live performances vary, but one thing is assured and that's having a good time. 16 W. 43rd St., Kansas City, Mo. 64111

Knuckleheads Saloon: Last, but certainly not least on the list is the prestigious Knuckleheads Saloon. Voted 'Best Blues Bar in KC' four years in a row by The Pitch; Knuckleheads has been the venue for many renown musicians such as: Buddy Guy, David Allen Coe, Honeyboy Edwards, and Hubert Sumlin.

As you can see, this venue is well worth a look, and is a guaranteed fun experience for all music lovers. 2715 Rochester, Kansas City, Mo. 64120
