Following the conclusion of the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships, the results from the competition served as the basis of the qualification of the number of entries per country.
Per the rules of qualification, 24 of 30 entries each were allocated for the men's and ladies' events, 16 of 20 for pairs, and 19 of 24 for dance. The remaining slots will be filled next season in September at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy.
For each discipline, the placements of each country's entrants at Worlds determined the number of multiple entries to the Olympics as follows:
- 1 entrant to 2013 Worlds
- Placement = 2 or lower: 3 Olympic entries
- Placement = 10 or lower: 2 Olympic entries - 2 entrants to 2013 Worlds
- Combined placement = 13 or lower: 3 Olympic entries
- Combined placement = 28 or lower: 2 Olympic entries - 3 entrants to 2013 Worlds
- Combined top 2 placements = 13 or lower: 3 Olympic entries
- Combined top 2 placements = 28 or lower: 2 Olympic entries
After the multiple entries are awarded, the remaining countries that have the highest placements in each discipline are awarded one spot each until the quota is filled (24 of 30 men, 24 of 30 ladies, 16 of 20 pairs, 19 of 24 dance).
