Lipton has partnered with the Muppets in its new “Be More Tea” global campaign. With the help of Muppet favorites Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Animal, Lipton offers a humorous look at how their tea offers a soothing respite from everyday stress.
Created by London agency adam&eveDDB and directed by Noam Morro, the Muppets first spot for Lipton’s “Be More Tea” campaign focuses on Kermit the Frog finding his “moment of zen” in New York City.
The Lipton commercial takes an effective approach – it is a refreshingly funny, rather than overly sentimental, look at the hustle and bustle of city life. The result is a funny valentine to NYC that embraces both the spirit of city and of the Muppets.
The commercial “How to Be More Tea with Lipton & The Muppets” depicts an everyday NYC day. It’s a strange and busy place, the streets filled with animals. Literally. Kermit finds himself trying to negotiate the New York City streets among a crowd of Animal look-alikes.
This bizarre version of a fast-paced NYC features Animal as construction workers, a server, a bike courier, a crying baby and street vendor, cab drivers, and even the odd tourist or two. It’s strange enough to fit within the Muppet universe but also hectic enough to drive Kermit to drink.
Luckily, Kermit choose Lipton as his beverage of choice. And the tea enables Kermit to find his balance, to “Be More Tea. Kermit then passes along the “Be More Tea” advice to Miss Piggy, who finds herself stressed when dealing with the NYC and the paparazzi.
The commercial also features a nice nod to the NYC of “Midnight Cowboy” with its use of the song “Everybody’s Talkin”.” Of course, in this commercial it’s Animal, not Rizzo (the Ratso), who’s reminding folks that he’s “walking here!”
A 60-second version of the Lipton’s “Be More Tea” spot with the Muppets will air on TV for the first time, during this Sunday’s Oscars.
