If you missed the International Make-up Artist Trade Show (IMATS), Los Angeles, June 25 and 26 in Pasadena, Calif., you missed out on great deals, education, and fun! IMATS didn’t open until Saturday, at 8:30 a.m., but ticket holders started lining up at midnight to be the first through the doors. Even with the long wait, people were happy, and excited thinking about what products they were going to buy. One shopper said she had saved all year to do her make-up shopping at IMATS. Most shoppers came with a friend, or family member, and some brought their kids along. “It's like Christmas in July for make-up lovers!”
First on most shoppers list was old standards like the MAC and Make Up For Ever booths, where people happily waited in line again (sometimes for up to an hour) to take advantage of the deep discounts. Next, most popular were the Royal & Langnickel make-up brush booth, where one shopper stated she was buying make-up brush sets as Christmas gifts for friends and family. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) was another crowd favorite because of their 100% vegan and cruelty free product line.OCC’s color rich Lip Tars (a thick, heavily pigmented lipstick in a tube) was their top seller.
NEW PRODUCTS
Here are a few product lines presented at IMATS LA, 2011, for the first time. They are fun, unique and really caught shopper’s attention.
Sugar Pill Cosmetics:
A new line of highly pigmented eye shadows in super vibrant colors. Sugar Pill was also the official make-up brand for Sanrio’s Hello Kitty’s 35thanniversary last year. With product names like “Poison Plum”, “Love” and “Birthday Girl”, matched with 20% discounts, IMATS shoppers couldn’t get enough. Check out tutorials, and product reviews online.
Violent Lips, Temporary Lip Tattoos:
A cool new concept, it’s basically colorful temporary designs for your lips that you press on (like any other temporary tattoo). The designs include pink leopard print, zebra print, polka dots, and many more. You can even get the same looks as singer Jessie J. using their “Union Jack” (the British flag), or be ultra patriotic this July 4thwith their American Flag design for your lips. Sound interesting? Ultimate Brush Roll:
A line of high-end, make-up brush rolls, created by Trudy Joyce. Trudy, a renowned celebrity makeup artist having worked with stars like Lady Gaga and Rihanna, for which she has created their very own Glamour Traveler. She designed her handcrafted Ultimate Brush Rolls with love. There are even fabulousaccessories like the “Dirty, Rich Collection” including a Swarovski crystal skull and cross bones. These brush rolls hold over 100 make-up brushes.
