On Monday, January 21, not only was it Martin Luther King Jr. day, but it was also the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. Beyonce was selected to perform the National Anthem! Now, there has been a lot of controversy going on regarding Beyonce's performance. Apparently, she was lip-syncing and people believe that this makes her a 'scam', a 'fraud' and many other unpleasant things. Everyone knows that Beyonce is an amazing singer, is she was not then she would not have become this famous and this known over the years that she been producing music; therefore, it is mind-boggling that people are criticizing her so harshly over this one misstep. It is understandable that the inauguration is a big deal, but that makes it even harder for the performer and puts more pressure on them to succeed and do their best. Beyonce was supposed to perform with the U.S. Marine band, but " they did not have time to rehearse together and therefore it was concluded that a live performance was ill advised for such a high profile event" (CBS News).
Other issues that arose were the fact that it was absolutely FREEZING! It was impossible for people to talk normally while being interviewed by news casters so one could only imagine how hard it would be for a singer to maintain a proper tone and pitch in such conditions.
What it all comes down to is the fact that, Beyonce is an amazing performer and singer and the fact that people are giving her such a hard time about one incident like this is just absurd.
