Lionsgate casts Lenny Kravitz as Cinna in 'The Hunger Games' movie

In an unusual casting choice, Lionsgate has cast musician Lenny Kravitz in the role of Cinna in The Hunger Games.

"When I saw Lenny's work in Precious I was just knocked out," said Hunger Games director Gary Ross. "It was quiet and strong and understated and open hearted; all qualities which define this character.  I'm really looking forward to this ride."

Cinna, as fans know, is the stylist for Katniss Everdeen, and uses his fashions to help win over audience members -- and also to make dangerous political statements. In fact (spoiler alert), as fans of the book know, it's Cinna's greatest creation -- a wedding dress that turns into a "Mockingjay" -- that utlimately costs him his life in Catching Fire.

Though known primarily for his rock 'n' roll music, Kravitz received critical acclaim for his supporting role in the film Precious. He received an NAACP Image Award nomination for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture," and the entire cast (including Kravitz) won a 2010 Screen Actors Guild award for "Best Ensemble" performance.

Kravitz has also had small appearances in films like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Zoolander.
