The TCNJ women's basketball team lost their first game in ten days.
The Lions won their past two games against conference foes. But yesterday's conference foe was able to beat the Lions.
The Lions lost to the Ramapo Roadrunners, 50-49, yesterday afternoon at Packer Hall on the TCNJ campus. It was the second time that the Lions have lost by one point on the season.
On January 3, 2013, the Lions lost 59-58 to Delaware Valley College. Yet, this loss came in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, unlike yesterday's home loss.
The loss is the first conference loss since January 16th of this year for the Lions. At home that day, they lost 59-45 to William Paterson.
The Lions dropped to 13-7 overall, including a 7-4 conference record. The Roadrunners improved to 15-5 overall, and 8-3 within the conference.
Yet, the two teams split the season series. The Lions won 47-46 on December 8, 2012 at the Ramapo campus in Mahwah, New Jersey.
For much of the second half, the game was close. Each team had a lead in the second half, but the game came down to the final seconds.
The game was tied at 48-48 with 50 seconds left. Alex Milne scored her only points with five seconds left with back-to-back free throws to make it 50-48.
Jessica Goldbach had an opportunity to tie the game for the Lions. She needed to make both free throws to send the game into overtime.
But she missed the first free throw, ending the hopes of sending the game into overtime. Then, she made the second free throw to give the Lions the one-point loss.
The Lions would have a five point lead late at 48-43 with a three-point basket by Goldbach. These were three of her seven points.
Kelly Roddy scored three of her 8 points on a three point basket with nearly 5 minutes leat at 43-41. Micaela Moore would then tie the game a short time later with a layup to make it 43-43.
The Roadrunners would have a lead over the Lions for nearly 6 minutes before the Roddy basket. Moore would increase the lead to 8 points at 41-33.
The Lions would take a 33-32 lead with 11 minutes left when Kylie O'Donnell scored three of her seven points with a three-point basket. A minute later, Kerrie Kosakowski scored two of her eight points to give Ramapo a one-point lead at 34-33.
The Roadrunners had a 7 point lead shortly into the second half. Moore scored two of her 15 points on back-to-back free throws to put them up 32-25.
The Lions lead 25-23 at the break.
The Lions led throughout the first half. They would have a lead as much as 11 points when Kelly Coughlin scored two of her six points with a layup to put the Lions up 12-1.
In the final two minutes of the first half, the Roadrunners were within four points. The rest of the half, the Lions had a large lead.
