Lions hit with snowballs: Animal lovers cringe

Some lions were hit with snowballs at a zoo in China and many animal lovers are outraged after viewing the footage. On Jan. 12, The Inquisitr reported that visitors were responsible for the cruel acts against some of the animals at the Hangzhou Zoo earlier this month. Photos of the snowball throwing have been released and it is clear to see the animals were bothered.

"When the group either tired of the 'fun' and/or exhausted the snow around the enclosure, they moved on to similarly harass the zoo’s tigers, monkeys, giraffes, alpaca and… you get the drift," Weekly reported (via The Inquisitr).

The lions weren't the only animals hit with snowballs. However, the pictures of the lion and lioness huddled together while snow was being pelted at them is really disheartening. Sure, one might agree that a snowball isn't going to "hurt" an animal such as a lion but that doesn't mean that it's "right" or should be perceived as "fun" in any way.

"Although snowballs can’t hurt large animals like lions, the behavior upset us nonetheless. Our animals should be treated fairly. We hope our visitors will use some self-discipline and be nicer to them," said breeder Zhu Yan.

The lions hit with snowballs were not injured but just seeing them take that kind of abuse is enough to make any animal lover cringe.
